Economic Impact
In the months of October through January the risk of animal strikes goes up dramatically. Collisions occur most commonly in states with high white-tail deer populations and even more frequently in states that have high-traffic rural or suburban roads. State Farm reports that in the time span of July 2021 to June 2022 1,378,542 deer strikes were claimed. The ten year animal strike rate, in accordance with the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), states that the average claim frequency of animal strikes to be 13.6 claims per 1,000 insured vehicles. The industry average cost for claims due to deer strikes is $4,300 per incident nationally. In Pennsylvania alone, a hot spot for deer strikes, the cost to insurance companies is in excess of $25,000,000 annually. Animal strikes are a billion dollar problem, and thus a billion dollar industry.
Internationally, the customer base for Antler Armor is immense, with over a billion dollars of property damage and hundreds of human lives lost in the United States per year alone. Antler Armour can be applied to repel cervids (animals of the deer family such as elk and moose) on all continents but Antarctica and Australia, as they are the only continents without any of these animals. While the market is international, Antler Armor was conceived, and will be initially targeted to solve the problem of deer strikes on high-traffic rural roads in the United States. The target market consists of municipalities that already have line spraying equipment to apply AntlerArmour, thus saving money, animals, humans, and the environment.
Environmental and Safety Impact
Deer strikes are not just a financial problem, but a safety and environmental issue as well. During a study of collisions in New York, 440 human lives were lost yearly in and average of 2.5 . Of those collisions, 0.5 are classified as severely damaging. The mean concentrations of pollutants in the air are: CO 0.2 ppm, NO2 15.1 ppb, SO2 0.5 ppb, and PM2.5 6.6 μg/m3. As time goes on, these small doses of greenhouse gases will turn into large cumulative doses, harming the environment. AntlerArmour is all-natural, environmentally friendly, and utilizes existing application equipment, cutting out waste seen in these collisions due to the fact that cars will be much less likely to get into an accident without obstructions(animals) on the road. The death rates continue to rise and so do the negative affects of global warming; with AntlerArmour, both global concerns will be significantly diminished, benefitting any and all users.
